Rainy Days

I have been crafting all weekend, yipee, but doesn't time fly when you are having fun. I can't believe that it's almost midnight Sunday and it'll be back to work tomorrow.

I've been busy making secret santa gifts, postcards and some paper ATCs. Too much to show in one post but I think definately my favourite thing that I made this weekend is a set of postcards for a BQLPC swap called Rainy Days. I decided to go abstract for some reason my scanner seems to be playing up and the image has lines over that aren't really there is real life, but this is the best I can do for now (my sister still has my digital camera).I was also prompted to change over to Beta blogger, this is my first post using the new format so I guess we'll see how we get on!

Postcard Frenzy

I have been desperately trying to catch up with my postcard swaps over the last week or so and I'm almost there thanks to a frenzy over the last couple of days. I've made 4 sets of postcards burning the midnight oil!

Here is a picture of one of the cards I made for a fun challenge on Artsnthemail. I borrowed this swap idea from Julie's advanced group with her permission of course. You had to construct a card using 5 beads, 4 fabrics, 3 different threads, 2 sequins and 1 button. It took me ages to try and come up with something but in the end I went for this quirky landscape.

Another fun swap on arts has been the 'cookie bake' swap. Basically the idea was to write or print a receipe onto fabric and then embellish around it. All the other cards I received in this swap were neatly printed onto fabric, but my printer is on the blink at the minute so I had to go with handwritten. I embellished with lots of chocolate and cherry french knots. Perhaps not the most artistic of cards but this was meant to be a fun and simple swap rather than an artistic interpretation and I enjoyed making them and have some scrummy recipes to try now too!

These are the last set that I have worked on. The swap was on canceledart. Unfortunately the group is closed at the moment and I'm ashamed to say that my cards for this swap are a couple of months rather than a couple of weeks late. Still no matter how late I always follow through! The theme for the swap was 'Line'. I have been really struggling with what to do which is why I put them off for so long. I must have had some idea when I signed up as I never sign up unless I have something in mind, but by the time it came to trying to make them I couldn't for the life of me think of how to do them.

I was dyeing some fabric for the back of my 'Cherish' cards when it struck me that I could use this same hand dyed fabric and use simple lines to change the feel and look of the fabric. I tried to place the lines on each piece in such a way as to hide larger areas with little colour or to emphasise the patterns that were created in the dyeing process. Again these probably aren't the best cards I'll ever make but it was a fun exercise. I wish I had taken a picture of the whole batch rather than just one as they all came out so differently.

Cherish

I finally started to feel a bit better yesterday afternoon so I got cracking on some postcards. It seems like ages since I made any, in reality it's only been a few days but these have become so much a part of my life this past year that it seems odd if I go a day without working on some, lol.

I'm still several swaps behind but in reality as long as I get some time it shouldn't take too long to catch up as I have the designs sorted and most of the fabrics cut I just have to get to putting them altogether.

This set was made for another artsnthemail swap. The swap was word play and each player chose a word from the database. I found some cute tile buttons at a papercraft shop so chose to take the word 'Cherish'. More rubber stamping, my favorite technique of the moment, I have already used this lady on some of my cards before but I really think it's a beautiful image so I'm sure this won't be the last time you see her!

I also managed to finish Vi's craft meme item (I just have to get Mark to take some pictures and then it will be on it's way).

Knitting update - The jacket is coming together quicker than I dared hope, so far I've managed to knit the back, one front piece and one sleeve, so who knows maybe it will actually be done by christmas!

Feeling icky

I have been feeling icky the last couple of days so I don't really have much to share as I've spent a lot of time asleep and/or generally feeling sorry for myself.

I have though decided to make a gift for my good friend, Charlotte, for christmas. She doesn't know about my blog so I'm safe to share! I'm not celebrating christmas this year, but Charlotte has been a really good friend this last year so I thought I'd make an exception.

I'm going to have a go at knitting her a jacket. I saw this pattern in a magazine a while back and thought at the time it was Charlotte's style so made a note of it and at the weekend I managed to find the pattern at a local knitting store. I know I've left it pretty late but I figure even if I spend just an hour every evening between now and christmas I have a good chance of finishing it (providing the pattern doesn't prove too complicated for my meagre knitting skills). I'll let you know how I get on.

My Weekend

I had had such a busy weekend it seems to have disappeared in a flash. Yesterday my Dad, sister and nephew came up to visit for the day. It was great to see them all. We didn't do anything too exciting a quick trip to town and that was about it but it was nice to spend a few hours in their company.

Today, well this morning Mark and I ventured out. We were planning on a walk in the woods but we hadn't reckoned on the torrential downpour we had last night. We got only about quarter of a mile into the walk and it was just too muddy so we turned round and came back. Instead we did a quick visit to West Kennet Long Barrow it was bitterly cold though so we didn't hang around too long.

This afternoon I have been working on my meme item to send to Violet it's nearly done but of course even when it's done I won't be able to share any pictures until she receives it. Actually I am really pleased with the way it us turning out, I think by the time it's done I'll not want to give it away so I may have to make another for me!

I don't have any pictures to share from my weekend adventures (and I've lent my compact digital camera to my sister so I'll be relying on Mark to provide the pics for my blogging over the next couple of weeks). I do hate to leave a post pictureless though so just for fun I'm sharing a picture of the doll I bought myself while we were holidaying in Corfu. She has a porcelain face and long lovely flowing cheesecloth robes. My Mum was the doll collector, it's not particularly my thing but I just fell in love with this one.

WWI collage

I put the finishing touches to my world war one collage this evening. I made this for a challenge on the altered art group I joined recently. I put up a picture a while back of the collage in progress. I haven't really done a huge amount to finish it off. I added a poppy and stamped a few words randomly in the background to fill out some of the gaps. To finish off I used a mini copper ink pad to overprint directly on top of the images to give them more of an aged look.

I don't think that this qualifies as a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but I don't think it's too bad considering it's my first attempt at paper collage.

Blog makeover

Since I have been blogging for almost a year now I decide to make a few changes to my blog as I was getting tired of the shocking pink! So I chose a new template and finally figured out how to upload the blog banner that Julie kindly designed for me a while back. I'm pleased with the new look, hopefully it will keep me going for another year :)

Meme Madness!

What a great day. I was so excited when I got home not only had I managed to find a woolly hatted drink but there were two wonderful parcels waiting for me. Both gifts from art meme's I found while wandering blogland. I am so lucky to have received such wonderful art pieces .

Here is a gorgeous pocket bag made by Anna. The colours are just gorgeous. It is difficult to show the vibrancy of them under the flash light but the bag is just gorgeous. Anna also generously shared some cord made by her friend and some of her own paper beads, which I know I will love using.

The second package landed all the way from Australia. Vi created this totally adorable kitty for me. I just love him, he's so much fun. Such a character he just had to have his own blog!

I'm so excited and inspried by all of these wonderful creations I know I'm not going to be able to sleep with all the crafty ideas running through my mind!

Woolly Wonder

Look what I found in my local Sainsbury's store today. I had read about these wonderful woolly hat creations on Helen's blog and even printed out the pattern to have a go at making a hat or two myself for the cause but couldn't find any needles small enough.

So of course when I saw these for sale I just had to snap one up. You can read more about this good cause here. They only had a few drinks for sale with hats but if they have any left tomorrow I might just treat myself to another one! I know there are hundred of people out there who have made these fun hats. I wonder who made mine?

Satin stitch work out

I've spent most of the day today doing fun craft things yipee :) I had to make up for lost time as I didn't get much done yesterday as we spent the afternoon at the Seaside in Weston-Super-Mare. It was blustery and cold but the sunset was amazing. I forgot to take my camera but Mark has some pics on his blog.

Well this design is what I finally came up with for an artsnthemail swap called 'mosiacs' I kept changing my mind about what I wanted to do and orginally this was going to be the background for the card and I was going to layer on top but when I did it I really liked it just the way it was and decided to leave it as it was rather than risk spoiling it. The satin stitch on my machine has had a good work out, I had to make 3 altogether and they have taken me just about all day to cut and stitch all the pieces each one is approx 1/2" square, phew! Still it's only 5pm and the night is yet young so I wonder if I will be able to squeeze in some more and start working on the next swap. If I can keep this up I'll be caught up in no time :)

I've just noticed that I must be in a blue mood as the last two swaps have both used blue. I'll try for something different in the next one, lol!

Sequins

Here is one of the cards I made for an Artsnthemail swap called 'sequins'. I decided to go abstract!

I have to admitt that I have been working on these for quite some time. Not that they actually took an enormous time to make it's just that I don't seem to have had much time for creating these past couple of weeks so I started them almost 2 weeks ago and only just got them done this morning.

I just love sequins they are probably my favourite embellishment at the moment so I had lots of fun raiding my collection for these, and it was so much easier to lay my hands on them now that I have most of my stash stored together by colour :) Actually I still have a way to go with the stash organisation but I'm trying to do a little bit each day even if it's only 10 mins and I'm gettng there bit by bit!

Goodies in the Mail

I've had lots of goodies in the mail this week which has been wonderful. I thought I'd share some pictures. First off here is a package I received from Joolz as part of the artsnthemail secret sister swap

As you can see the package was full of delicious fabrics and embellishments in my favourite colours of the moment orange and pink. It was all crammed into the delightful little tin that you can see in the picture, gift wrapped in fabric with the cutest christmas kitty tag.

I also received a surprise 'just because' package from Flicsha a wonderful lady who I have the good fortune of swapping with on several of the postcard groups I belong to. She sent me some fun fabric and ribbon plus the most wonderful hand made pin cushion. What a delight to receive such a wonderful surprise!

I've joined a new group recently to feed my new found interest in altered art. They have a monthly swap there where you decorate an envelope and fill it full of paper crafting goodies. I received a wonderful oriental inspired envelop from Elizabeth this week, packed full of wonderful papers.

I also had a wonderful array of postcards and am thinking about maybe starting a new blog sometime soon dedicated to showing pictures of some of the wonderful cards I have received this year. I love taking part in these swaps as the mail is so much more interesting these days and you never know what it will bring each day!

Flamingos Revisited

I can't believe that I have been away from blogland for almost a week doesn't time fly. I had a busy weekend visiting my sister, meeting her new Jack Russell puppy, Max and trying to keep my nephew entertained while Emily went christmas shopping for him.

Consequently I haven't done much creating these past few days but tonight I had to get stuck right in and finish my page for the book RR that I'm in as I'm already a couple of days late for posting this round.

Here is the finished result. The flamingo is my first ever attempt at machine embroidery/thread painting whatever you like to call it and I think it came out pretty good, it's taken me the whole evening to get this done though so alas the housework gets overlooked again :)

In Progress - Collage

Here is something a bit different from my usual fiber offerings. I have recently become fascinated by mixed media and altered art and found a wonderful UK based yahoo group to join. They are running a challenge at the moment to create a piece inspired by WWI. So here is my offering. It's still in progress at the moment but hopefully this will turn out to be my very first art collage.

Well actually I'm sure sure if I'll end up being able to call it a proper collage as to me it should have a few more layers before it can be said to be a real collage. Basically I started with a piece of canvas board which I painted with white gesso. I then took some burnt sienna acrylic paint and rubbed this over the top with a paper towel. I then added some copper acrylic for a slight sheen and on top of that rubbed in some oil pastels in various brown shades. When these layers of paint had dryed a bit I scratched back into the surface with the end of a pair of scissors. Over the top I have stuck various images and text mainly from WWI propoganda posters and finally wrapped some small pieces of jewellery wire together in which I hope looks like some imitation barbed wire to frame some of the edges of the board.

I'm thinking my next step will be to add some randomly stamped text to the exposed background and hopefully that will finish the piece off.

Flamingos

This evening I have been working on a page for a fabric book round robin that I'm in. The theme for Geni's book is flamingos. I have to admit to having had the book in my possession for a couple of weeks now but I've found the theme a bit daunting so have been putting off getting started. The posting deadline for this round is now looming so I just knew I had to get started. I've managed to finish one side of my page this evening and I'm pretty pleased with the way it's turned out.

I decided to cheat and make a flamingo silhouette, so here is my 'Flamingo at sunset' Actually I had a lot of fun making this in the end. I used some of the wonderful orange fabrics that Harriett sent me in my secret sister package for the sky, horizon and water. Added some free motion stitching to try and emulate the ripple effect of water and beaded round the setting sun for a little bit of added sparkle. Finally finishing off with a lace edge just to soften it all up abit.

I haven't actually fixed this page in the book yet. I have to make two sides to complete the page and will wait and see what my other effort turns out like before I decide which is going to be the front and which will be the back, lol!

Vintage

Here are some cards that I've made for a vintage theme swap on Artsnthemail.

I'm a bit nervous about sending these ones out as I'm worried that the receipients might think they are a bit on the simple side. I have received some wonderful cards in this swap and I would hate to think of anyone being disappointed by my efforts.

When I saw this fabric I just fell in love with the vinatge images and just had to have it for this swap, but when it actually came to making the cards I realised that there wasn't too much I could do with the fabric without spoiling the images. I added lots of french knots to each card where the flowers were and this in itself took over half an hour on each card but once this was finished the cards still seemed a bit too simple somehow. I guess I will have to see what people think when they arrive, I can always go back and make something different if anyone comes back to say they didn't like the card.

The Luckiest Girl in the World

I've had such a wonderful day today. After all of the dark days I've experienced this year this was definately one of those 'chicken soup for the soul' days. First up I went for a walk in the park first thing with Mark. If the truth be known I didn't really want to go but he kinda made me and I'm glad I did. Mark took his camera and we spent a happy couple of hours taking in the autumn colours and feeding the ducks. Mark got some great photos and hopefully he will post some on his blog before the weekend is out.

When I got home there was just a whole pile of post waiting to greet me. My patchwork magazine subscription had arrived as had three books that I ordered from Amazon. Felt to Stitch, Stitch, Dissolve, Distort in Machine Embroidery and Mixed Media Explorations. The most amazing packages though came from my partners in a secret sister swap recently held on Fabricards. I decided to sign up for sending 2 packages for this swap and both my return packages come today.
First up here is the wonderful selection of fabric and embellishments that I receieved from Louise. Wow not only did she pick out some great fabrics but there was also a wonderful cat planner, buttons, beads, sequins, crystals, ribbons, ric-rac and funky fibers. I am going to have so much fun with all of these fun embellishments.

And as if that wasn't enough I had a second amazing package from Harriett. The most wonderful reindeer tote bag that she made was packed full of three bundles of fabric. Lots of luscious oranges, my favourite colour of the moment, and some wonderful cat prints to add to my collection. I am totally overwhelmed by Louise and Harriett's generosity and of course will be making them both a little something by way of thank you soon!

Of course surrounded by such wonderful fabrics and embellishments I couldn't help but find myself in creative mood. I was tempted to get stuck in and use some of my new fabrics but they all need to be washed through first to sort out any colour run etc, so instead I got cracking on some more postcards.

I got out some of my rubber stamps (yes this is one of my favourite things to do at the moment as you probably gathered) and made some fairy cards for a myth and magic swap on Fabricards. A pretty simple design but this was quite a big swap and I'm so far behind with it that I couldn't really make it too complicated.

I also made a couple of cards for a Travelling postcard swap on the advanced group, basically a package of fabrics and embellishments have been travelling round and each participant has to chose something in the package with which to make a couple of cards, replace what has been used and send the package on to the next participant. Here is one of the cards I made. I've called it enchanted garden.

What an amazing day, I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

Bumble Bees

I'm ashamed to say that my oldest outstanding swap commitment is for the wonderful FGM group. They are having a great swap at the moment called wonderous wings, every month is a new theme and the idea is to make 6" blocks to swap with the other members of your group.

These should have been posted at the end of August so I am way behind. I feel very guilty not to have got these sent out before now, but now I can rejoice that they are done and on the way to their new homes. I haven't done much hand applique work for a while so it was lots of fun to work on these and I think they came out ok.

A new leaf?

I've got the day off work today and had planned to tie myself to the sewing machine in a bid to finish up some of my late swaps. However, I got really frustrated by not being able to find anything I wanted to I decided enough is enough and I needed to get a new system for organising all of my bits and pieces.

A quick trip to town later I came home armed with tonnes of little plastic tubs (the kind that you get your fried rice in from the takeaway, lol) and began sorting. It's taken all day and I've only just started to touch the surface of my collection of bits and bobs (giggle) but so far so good. I have decided to go with sorting things by colour as this is most often how I work these days so thought it would be easier to have all the inspiration in one place. So now I have lots of little groups of tubs like this

I've filled one tub with fabric scraps, another with all of my cottons and threads and the third has ribbons, lace, beads, buttons and sequins. I'm hopeful that this system is going to be perfect for me and the way I like to work and it should be easy to chuck everything back in the boxes at the end of the day to keep the place a bit tidier.

Star Challenge bag

I had a busy but fun weekend visiting Bath, going to the local firework display and then going out to Stourhead to see the wonderful autumn scenery there in the garden at the moment. Didn't get time for much creating though so I need to go into creative overdrive the next few days if I want to carry on the good work I have started making in roads in to the catching up I have to do with my swaps.

I managed to get one thing finished up though and that was a small bag I have been making for a challenge on BeadArt-olics. The listmom already kindly extended the deadline for me so I just had to get this finished. We were sent the polymer clay face and a few beads that we had to use and the rest was up to us. I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to beading projects so my small bag came together with a lot of trial and error. The most fun I had was making the beaded strap but for a first attempt at designing a beaded project on my own, I think it came out ok.

Bag Complete

Well I know at least one person is impatient to see my finished bag, lol. So here I am up early on a Saturday morning blogging! Actually I'm looking forward to a day out shopping in Bath today. It's only 10 minutes away on the train and it's such a lovely town with many famous sights to see. Of course the main reason for going is to visit the LQS (though Mark thinks the main reason we are going is to get some scrummy sausages from the Sausage shop ready for bonfire celebrations tonight, well I had to make up some excuse and the prospect of good food always seems to motivate him!)

Enough waffle here's my bag. I'm so pleased with the way it turned out it really only took a couple of hours to knit up. The only thing I have left to do is add some lining but I will do that this afternoon when we get back from shopping.

Busy Week

It's been a few days since I had time to post. Tuesday, Halloween, was Mark's birthday so we went to the cinema and out for dinner. Last night I was out for a meal with the girls from work and tonight it was round to Mark's Mums for dinner.

So with all that going on I haven't had much time for creating. Although having said that I have managed to finish my knitted bag. It came together so quickly half hour here and there and it was done. I just finished sewing the handles on so no pictures yet as it's time for bed. Hopefully tomorrow....

Autumn Collage

Here is my fabric postcard offering of the day. I started it yesterday and got it finished this evening. The swap theme was Fabric Collage only one other person signed up. I changed my mind several times as to what theme I would base this round but my mind was finally made up on Saturday as I loved working with the leaves background fabric for the BQLPC swap.

I cut the background from that wonderful fabric and then sewed some skeleton leaves on top of that. Then I stamped some leave images over the top of these two layers. I also stamped out some other images on to autumn colour fabrics to lay as tiles on top and finally finished it off with a few buttons. I'm pretty thrilled with the way the card turned out. I hope my swap partner like it too!

Knitting

As well as calling in at the LQS on Saturday to pick up some Timtex I also had a quick nose around the knitting shop and just couldn't resist these beautiful felt yarns. Not sure what I am going to make with them yet but the colours are just beautiful so I had to buy.

I also decided to make myself a fluffy knitted bag as I'm feeling the need to get cosy now the weather is starting to get colder. I've only had time to knit up a few rows so far but I'm hopeful that it will come together pretty quickly.

Busy Day

Well thanks to the fact that I stayed up until silly o'clock on Friday night watching the baseball world series I managed to finish my fire postcards so that freed up yesterday to start catching up on other things. My order of Timtex still hasn't arrived so I decided to go to the local quilt shop and buy some Fast2Fuse instead to keep me going. I love working with Fast2Fuse but it's almost twice the price of TimTex so I can't afford to do it all the time.

Anyway I had a whole lot of fabrics cut ready for making my postcards so I had a bit of a frenzy at the machine and managed to put several sets together. We are having a fun swap at Artsnthemail called Orphan blocks (thanks to Julie at advancedfiberpostcards for letting me borrow her idea). Basically you chop up any oprphan quilt blocks you have lying around and recycle them into postcards. I loved it so much I also used this idea to create some postcards for an open theme swap that I am participating in on the FiberArtistIntl group. I made 10 cards like this altogether so I can't really show them all here but here are a couple of my favourites.

I also managed to complete a set of postcards for BQLPC the theme is Autumn Splendour, this turned out pretty simple in design but I really love the background fabric and to me it just captures the colours of Autumn so I didn't want to add to much. I usually get some wonderful cards from this group so I hope that no-one ends up too disappointed with my simple design this time.

I also made another ATC for the artsnthemail swap, I used some scraps of my Microwave dyed fabric and am really pleased with the contrast in the colours and how the hand stitching round the edges brings the hearts to life.

While out and about picking up my Fast2Fuse I also treated myself to some wool and a couple of knitted bag patterns so I made a start on one of those too, I will get some pictures up when my camera battery is charged. All in all quite a productive day (no housework though!)

Corfu revisited

Recently my partner Mark has refound his passion for photography after treating himself to a digital slr a few months ago. He has been without his PC since we got back from our holiday but it got fixed this week and we have had fun looking at the pictures he took in Corfu and reliving some of the memories.

I know I am probably biased but I think his photos are amazing. Here is one of my favourites taken of one of the statues of the muses at Achellieon palace in Corfu I just love the way the light plays across the statue. If you would like to check out some of his other photos then there is a link on the side to his blog.

Fire

Here is a postcard that I have been working on for the 'Fire' theme swap in the advanced group. I love cathedral windows though it is a time consuming technique and my fingers get burnt from all of the ironing!

I have 4 more of these to make to complete the swap so I guess I know what I will be up to this weekend!

I'm having a postcard crisis at the moment in that I still have many swaps to catch up on but have run out of TimTex, I've put an order in and had hoped that it would have been here by now but still no sign. At least I can make and finish these without Timtex as all the folding makes them naturally thicker so I can just add a piece of card to the back no need for a middle layer.

These cards are actually turning out about half inch smaller than the standard 6 x 4 size, but I'm hoping that the others in the swap will like the design and can appreciate the amount of work that each of these takes and will forgive me that half inch!

Art Meme

I recently joined an altered art group on yahoo as I have been ooohing and aahhing over some of the creations that I've seen using these techniques for a while. Having at look at some of the members blogs I came across this and of course had to comment so here I am adding the meme to my blog too (not sure if I have 5 readers though so it could be interesting!)

So, the idea is that the first five people to respond to this post (via comments) will receive a piece of art from me! I know not what the artworks will be so there's surprises in store! The catch, of course, is that if you respond, you then have to post this meme to your blog! (Ok so you don't have to but it would be nice to keep the fun going).

Lost Track

Eeek well my plan for today was to try and catch up and share a few of the things that I have been creating these past couple of weeks but I have to be honest and own up to not being able to remember most of it. Oops I think I'm just tired today I'm sure it will all come flooding back to me soon.

The one thing I can definately remember working on is a fabric book for a round robin that I am current participating in. This is my first ever round robin and first ever go at making some pages for a fabric book. First book I got to work on was Barbara's. Here is the front cover she made for her spring themed book. (sorry about the flash glare).
We have to make both a front and a back to complete a whole page in the book. Here is the front I made for my page. And here is the back ...

My page seems to be quite simple compared to some of the others that have been posted for all of the different themes but I did warn them all that I am a novice at this so hopefully they won't mind too much. I don't want to get over complicated and end up wasting time on something that is just too advanced for my skills at the moment.

I'm waiting for the next book to arrive now, the theme is flamingos which I think is going to be quite a challenge!

Getting back in the habit

Wow I can't believe how easy it is to get out of the blogging habit. It's been a couple of weeks since I posted which is not like me at all. I haven't been idle though I've being doing lots of creative things and this past Friday I went back home to attend my Gran's funeral which was very sad.

I will try my best to try and do some catching up over the next few days and to post some pics of some of the things that I have been up to, but for today it's just a flying visit to get back into the habit again.

Goodbye Nan

Today is a very sad day for me as my wonderful Nan, Ethel Barnes, passed away in the early hours of this morning. It wasn't altogether unexpected as she had been in hospital for the last few weeks but it's still a shock. It seems especially difficult as she is my Mum's Mum so to lose them both only a few months apart is just awful.

My Nan was a wonderful creative person an amazing seamstress and a talented knitter. She along with my Mum taught me how to knit at a young age, I only wish that I had had the passion for sewing that I have now when I was a bit younger as I'm sure she would have been a wonderful teacher. Even though she had a stroke a few years ago and lost the use of her left side she still kept creating for a while using cross stitch over plastic canvas. I will miss her but hopefully she is now somewhere good with my Grandad and my Mum.

I know, especially after the lessons that I have learned this year, that I shouldn't wish my life away but I just wish that this year was over it's been bloody awful.

Tree Spirit has finally emerged

My beaded tree spirit is finally finished. This was the first online class that I ever signed up to. I can't believe that it started almost 2 months ago and it's taken me all this time to get this complete.

I really like the finished tree though, and in actual fact it didn't take that much time to complete in terms of hours spent, it was just me trying to find that time, lol! I think I got a bit discouraged for a while as when Tyler was staying he managed to shake up the box that I was keeping this fellow in and all the beads got mixed up so it wasn't as smooth sailing as I had hoped!

Here is the back view. Although I bought a kit to make this cutie, the class does include instructions on how to make the tree form so I am thinking I might create a little forest of these guys maybe reflecting the different seasons or even different tree species. When I'll find the time though I don't know! I'm thinking that once I am caught up on my swap commitments I might start making a few more things just for me!

More postcards and ATC's

Yippee I have my scanner back, of course it was simple enough to plug in but the slot was hiding between some other cables and I just couldn't see for looking. I must get some simple lessons from Mark on how these things work as I'm useless when he's not around! Anyhow here are the things I was working on at the weekend. First off a set of cards for a Breast Cancer Awareness swap. Of course this theme is something close to my heart after the recent lost of my wonderful Mum so these cards have been made as a tribute to her. I have created them all with different patchwork backgrounds in scraps of pink fabric and then overlayed a heart and a pink ribbon on each.

Here is another ATC made for the artsnthemail swap. Not a very good picture as the 'Imagine' embellishment is too chunky to go under the scanner and by the time I get home from work these days there isn't much daylight left so all my photos with the camera have to be taken with a flash. I think I will try and get a better picture at the weekend when I'm at home during daylight hours!

Finally here is a design I came up with for a swap on BQLPC entitled 'Ancient Cultures' of course having just come back from Greece I had to use that as my inspiration.

Also made ....

This weekend I also made 3 sets of postcards another ATC for the artsnthemail swap and made some excellent progress on my beaded tree spirit. I know I haven't mentioned the tree spirit for ages and that class started way back in August, but what with Em and Tyler being here, Dad and his emergency trip to the hospital and of course my holiday the tree just hasn't had a look in, poor thing. Still after some hard work the last couple of evenings he is almost done.

Hopefully I will have pictures of all of these things to add sometime in the next couple of days but Mark was on my PC earlier and has disconnected the scanner and being a total technodufus I can't work out how to get it set back up and Mark is now fast asleep. (Hopefully he will have is PC fixed again soon and then he will stop tinkering with mine, hee hee!)

Fairy in Progress

This rather bizarre looking creation is my fairy doll in progress. I'm having fun taking this class but as I have so many other things on the go I'm making slow progress, just the body and legs so far.

I came unstuck with the arms though as they were so tiny I had trouble turning them until I came up with an improvised turning tool made from a straw and a kebab stick. After much effort and swearing I managed to get the arms turned and yes you guessed it I haven't done a thing with them since!

When fairy is finished I want to have a go at the mermaid which is a slight variation on the pattern so I decided to order some proper turning tools. Ordered on Saturday arrived today so I can highly recommend this supplier of doll related items.

Daddy long legs fever

This explosion of Daddy Long Legs that we seem to be having this year is driving my cats wild. Inevitabley one or two seem to creep into the house each morning and the cats go wild chasing around after the things knocking over everything in their path.

Just had to share this cute picture of Pip who has been staring at the same Daddy for the last half hour. Daddy is calmly resting on the ceiling safely out of reach but Pip is ready to pounce at the first sign of movement.

Beaded ATCs

You might remember seeing my little beaded mermaid from last week, well here is the finished ATC made for a swap entitled ' Beautiful Beads' I also attached a little beaded mirror and have titled card, 'The fairest mermaid of them all?' There are 6 of these altogether and all of the mermaids are slightly different colours.

I love beads and for this swap any media is acceptable so I decided to make some faeries too, using a rubber stamp onto card with some accent beads to decorate the dress. Again there are 6 of these and all of the dresses have been decorated with different coloured beads. I had lots of fun making both of these sets of cards and can't wait to see what I get in return.

Where did you get that Tee?

I can't believe I haven't posted since Friday, now I have loads to catch up on! I was without my PC for most of the weekend as Mark borrowed it to take to a friend's so it's all snowballed from there.

Sunday Emily and Tyler came up for the day to collect the last few bits and pieces that were here from their stay. Here is Tyler posing in a T-Shirt which was embroidered by a really good internet friend of mine, Carmen, she has been a great help an inspiration to me and is definately to blame for me starting out in postcards, lol! She generously made several T-Shirts with her embroidery machine for Tyler and they are all just wonderful.
