Red and White - Part One

Well I figured a good way to kick off the year would be to tell you all about my new quilting project. My partner Dave really liked the quilt I made for Nan and as we've been happily together for a while now I thought it was high time I made him his own quilt to snuggle under while on the sofa in front of the TV.
I'm using this lovely pattern which I purchased on Etsy here.

I decided to do things slightly different in that I'm going to use all red fabrics rather than a mix.First step has seen me cutting 256 (yes you read that right!) little red and white squares. I have been out and specifically bought the right yardage of the white fabric but all the reds are coming from what I already had. I think I used just about every red in the collection.
Am now in the process of chain piecing these squares. It's going to take a while to get these all joined up in to rows but I'm sure it'll be worth it.
The pile of joined squares is already building up on the desk behind my machine. Hopefully I'll have the first part of the quilt ready to share soon. I'm setting myself a little goal of having this quilt done by the end of January, but it's a very loose target and I won't be beating myself up if I don't get there. At the end of the day there is still life to be lived so it will take as long as it takes.

I was thinking of doing a red quilt for DS2, can't wait to see how yours turns out.

I love the pattern and I think it's going to look amazing in all those reds - look forward to seeing the end result!

Looks like a challenge. :-) Great that you could use alot of fabrics you already had.

It's going to be a lovely quilt but that is a lot of squares that you had to cut. Good luck with the chain piecing.
