Down on the Farm

It's been a while since I did an out and about post. It's not that I don't have anything to tell you about I still have photos from Amsterdam, walks on the beach in Cornwall, messing around by the river and strolls in woods that I haven't told you about I just haven't had the time.

I will get to all that stuff but first here are a few snaps from a trip to the farm yesterday.Curious piggiesFriendly goats (these were adorable they were trying to eat everything including shoelaces and our backpacks!)Chickens galore including this fancy fellowAnd this portly fellow. Honestly these chickens were huge I've never seen the like....To give you an idea here he is stood up next to a duck. Giant, he was :)A trip to the farm is not all about the animals though plenty of beautiful ramshackle buildings to see too, if you like that sort of thing, which I do :)
The main attraction though were the beautiful herds of Bison. What magnificent animals, and they had babies too.I mean how cute is this little sleepy fellow. Hard to imagine that one day he'll grow up to look like this.It struck me as quite funny to see this huge and powerful beasts among the buttercups! After the trip to the farm we went for a wonderful 6 mile ramble through the countryside. Due to a bit of bad planning on my part though I only have this one shot of the countryside to share as my camera battery went flat.
Never mind lesson learned for next time!

Whirlwind Weekend

I hope you all had a fabulous Easter weekend. I really did. I spent some time visiting family and getting cuddles from my gorgeous nephewsThen there were long walks down the river, what hard work that was ;-)And more long walks through the woods admiring the beautiful bluebells in the sun.The peace and quiet of the bluebell wood was a world away from the manic madness of spending time with family and two noisy nephews, but that doesn't mean there wasn't time for a moment of silliness or two :)The only thing that I didn't really get done was any stitching. But I'm hoping to be back tomorrow with some stitching content, I know it's been a while!

Hope your weekend was as joyful as mine. X

Sheep

You know that spring is in there air when cute little lambs start to appear all over the countryside.Cute no?Seeing these little fellows has reminded me of the little sheep sampler I had in mind to make a couple of years ago. I made a few little sheep in different stitch techniques then it fell by the wayside, I really must dig them out and start working on that again.

Messing Around by the River

It's been a while since I had an out and about post. So here are a few snaps from a walk we had last weekend. (If you've been over to my C and G blog, you'll have seen a couple of snaps from this walk already). We went for a little wander which took us round the outskirts of a local village called Box. It's a walk that I've done before but last time it was a bit later in the year and there was plenty of lovely sunshine. This time it was fair but pretty chilly in the air.Dave decided to try and warm up by letting his inner child out and climbing some trees....... he also had to jump on this rope and have a swing. I had visions of having to drag a very wet and sorry for himself man out of the river, but thankfully he managed to hang on and keep dry!
We weren't the only ones messing around on the river that day. Mr and Mrs Duck came over to say hello but they didn't stay long the carried on splashing and quacking up river. It wasn't all messing around by the river though, we had to put in some hard work with and uphill climb and we got charged down by one big and angry horse who didn't seem to like the fact that the public footpath went through his field. The climbing effort was worth though for the lovely views back down and over the village. We were in fits of laughter trying to take a picture of us with the view in the background. We ended up with lots of shots of cropped heads and even some of the ground!! This was the best of a rather poor bunch. :-)

Winter Rambling

This last weekend was a lovely long one as we had the bank holiday to welcome in the New Year. We spent New Years Eve celebrating with some good friends, then had a nice lazy 1st of January. On Sunday though we polished off the walking boots and took a wander down some country lanes to see what we could see and to maybe work off one or two of the excess Christmas calories. As you can tell from this first picture it was a pretty grey day so maybe not the best for photography, but it was lovely to see some green again now the snow has disappeared.Even on a grey day there is plenty to see and wonder at if you just keep your eyes peeled. I couldn't get a good picture but I love the little red shoots on these thorny branches, a gentle reminder that nature is beginning to think about awakening and regrowth again. We wandered past a field of mud covered cows. They were hiding behind a hedge and I think they were fascinated by this silly human who kept trying to shove her camera through the gaps in the hedge, shouting at them to say cheese. After keeping the cows entertained for a while our wander continued down the lanes. Passing more green fields and verge side plants. Before reaching the village that was our destination we stumbled across some more large animals to talk to.This chap was pretty friendly so we passed the time of day and left with a promise to bring polos next time we passed his way. After walking in that cold it was time to venture to village pub and enjoy some refreshment by the open fire before making the journey home again. Can't think of a nicer way to pass some free time on a winters day.

The weekend is almost upon us again, we have no particular plans I guess we'll just see where the mood takes us. Whatever you're up to hope you have a lovely time this weekend.
