Plenty of colour

I decided to play some more with colour and the ideas that I picked up from my class at the weekend and made a series of postcards and an ATC.
This is an ATC I made and will be sending to Katharine as a thanks for running a wonderfully enjoyable class. And a series of postcards that I am going to be sending as part of the Fiber Art Friends birthday swap.
I still feel so out of the loop I have a tonne of swaps to catch up on and haven't a clue what is going on in the groups that I belong to at the moment. I guess it will take some time but I'm looking forward to getting caught up and feeling like a I am part of things again.

Workshop with Katharine Guerrier

Well it seems like it's been ages since I did any sewing and what better way to get the creative juices flowing than to take a workshop. So today I went to Country Threads in Bath to take a postcard and mini art quilt workshop with Katharine Gurerier.

Katharine was a great teacher and the class was very enjoyable. I know some of you might be thinking why on earth would I be taking a postcard class but really I was attracted to the lovely samples that were displayed in the shop advertising the class. I'm not particularly good when it come to using bold blocks of colour with abstract shape and line which is what I really wanted to take the class for.

Katharine had some great samples to share at the class so there was plenty of inspiration to be had. I decided to steer away from postcards and instead spent the day making my first mini art quilt. Here it is.
Not bad for a first attempt. It's about 13" x 13" It was great fun choosing all the bright fabrics and trying to match them all up together, and then usging lots of stitching variation to quilt the piece at the end.

Katharine has a book coming out later in the year dedicate to her mini art quilts and postcards and I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of some of the work that will be going into it. Hopefully she will keep in touch and let me know just as soon as it is published!

Yippeeeeeee!

Dad got his test results this week and all is well. It seems that the operation did the trick and all signs of his cancer are gone :)

What a huge relief, hopefully now that dreadful wait is over I can get back to normal and catch up with everything.

Thanks to everyone who left kind messages of support and send positive energy Dad's way!

Catching Up

I'm Back! Well honestly I've been back home since last Monday but I just haven't had the time or the enthusiasm to start blogging again, but I think I've found it again.

My Dad's op seems to have gone well his consultant was quite confident that they have managed to get the bad stuff but we have to wait a couple of weeks for the biopsy just to be sure, the results of this will also determine whether my Dad has to start a course of chemo or not so we all have our fingers crossed that he won't.

I'm still way behind with my swaps but have made a few inroads during the evenings this week by catching up with the beaded doll RR's that I'm in. In my eagerness to get them moving again I've posted the dolls on without taking any photos though :( Nevermind it will teach me to slow down a bit in future and make sure I have done everything before I pack my parcels up.

You might remember me mentioning a couple of posts ago that one of my postcards was to be published in an article in a local magazine. Wiltshire Life has in the current issue an article about Kandy Newton and her enthusiasm for textiles. I expect some of you will know Kandy from the Internet groups, here is my cat card as featured in the article.

Ok so I don't get a mention as such and it is only a picture but this is the first time that I've ever been published anywhere so I'm quite excited about it!

The sun is shining here again today as it has been all week so hopefully Mark and I are just about to go out for the day (haven't decided where yet!) to enjoy some of it.
